Travelling for a model booking

A lot of our models have the luxury of accepting jobs in their local area. This is because we have hundreds of jobs available, sent to us by our clients. Therefore, it stands to reason that many models who are picked by clients don’t have to travel that far; a short drive, a quick train or bus journey or even a pleasant stroll to their job.

But with the sheer amount of job opportunities comes the chance to travel. We don’t expect our models to have the time to regularly travel huge distances, but several models do have the chance to commute to their assignments.

Usually, travelling is a joy. There is the excitement of planning the journey, looking at timetables and dodging difficult areas of traffic. Sometimes it’s more of a challenge than a pleasure…

Travelling has its merits, but it can also be the reason for lateness – and a little anxiety when you’re racing against the clock to be prompt for your modelling job. Luckily, Models Direct has some cast-iron tips to assist all our models when travelling to (and from) their assignments.

1. Get out of any habit of leaving things to the last minute. Don’t procrastinate. Make sure you have all the necessary paperwork to hand, and save important details on your phone. Speaking of not procrastinating, make sure your morning alarm sounds in plenty of time. If you’re driving, do you enough petrol? If commuting, are the trains / buses running on time? Don’t rely on chance!

2. If you’ve done your research and know a little about us, you should know  that our team will always provide successful models with all the details they need: first point of contact names, addresses and telephone numbers of people you’ll be working with, and what can be expected of you (the type of work, break times, what to wear and what to take with you etc). As useful as that is, models should always put in a little work ahead of travelling to their job. Scanning Google Maps and memorising postcodes is important.

3. Check the weather forecast a day in advance. OK, so the forecast could change at any time, but if it’s likely that it’ll rain, be sure to take an umbrella and a waterproof coat. Conversely, if it’s going to be sunny, pack sunglasses and suncream.

4. Have essentials to-hand. Keep wallets / purses safe but accessible. The same applies to your phones.

5. Be comfortable. You may be asked to bring specific clothes to your job, so keep them in a crease-proof bag.

6. Don’t set off before breakfast; keep energy levels topped up. If you’re not a fan of eating too early, make sure you have at least a snack or two before arriving.

7. Don’t be afraid to get in touch with us at any time if you have concerns or questions. We’re here to help! And if we need to get in touch with you, please answer our calls.

Travelling to a modelling job needn’t be as stressful as a frantic London tube journey. Give yourselves the best chance for a successful commute – and a successful Models Direct job.
