No one likes a show off, but there’s also nothing wrong with showing others what skills you have to offer. It’s often a balance between over-confidence and humility.

Everyone has at least one skill. It doesn’t have to be unique, and it could be a skill that you think you don’t have. Maybe a friend or family member has told you of your certain skill. If that’s the case, you may want to expand on it and see if it could lead to great things – either professionally or socially.
There is a chance to “sell yourself” in most interviews or on employment application forms. Employees like to see experience, although in some cases this isn’t necessary (e.g. applying with us). It’s someone’s skills that can really stand out, so you can’t afford to overlook them. If you don’t inform the people that matter of your skills, how will they know what a talented person you are?
We love to read what potential models can offer our brands. Remember – it’s our clients that make the final decision, so don’t be content with sending us a couple of clear headshot photos and waiting for our clients to pick you out from the other shortlisted models. Be proactive. We need you to stand out, not hide in the shadows!

What skills can you tell us about? The list is endless, though some are more relevant than others. The list below is by no means exhaustive, but if you possess one or more of them, let us know on your portfolio:
1. Camera friendly. Perhaps an obvious skill to have for a model, although some people can be shy even though they look fantastic in front of a photographer or filmmaker. If you’re outgoing and interact well with strangers, don’t underestimate it as an essential characteristic. Tell us! Our clients will be pleased to know.
- Tell us your skills!
- Challenging modelling stereotypes
- How do I get selected for modelling work?
- Being patient – sometimes it takes that little bit longer to be chosen
- Modelling as a couple
2. Have you worked in sales before? This could be a great skill for our promotional models. They are often asked to mingle with the public on high streets and at launches / large promotional events; whilst not necessarily selling directly, models with a sales background could just be what our big brands are looking for.

3. Are you a singer or a musician? If so, we receive many assignment briefs that require models with vocal skills and those with a musical background. Tell us your experience in your portfolios – don’t be shy. Blow your own horn, so to speak!
4. Sporting talent. You don’t have to physically fit to be a Models Direct superstar, but it certainly helps if you have your sights on being a fitness or sports model. We have opportunities all year round for active models wanting to be the star of the shoot.
5. Are you a budding Dr. Doolittle? If you love animals or have worked with them before, be sure to let us know. Some jobs demand our models to interact with all sorts of animals, just as Sean and Catherine did on their shoot. Never underestimate any skill which our clients can make use of.

Even if you think your skills are not relevant, you may be surprised as to what our clients are looking for. It’s better to tell us than keeping your skills to yourself. So let us know how you can help hundreds of our clients and, in doing so, help yourself.
