Woohoo! Congratulations on your first booking! You’ve made it this far and you’ve done amazingly well – you kept your portfolio up to date, informed us of any changes to your body measurements and touched base with us regularly to see how your application was moving. Excellent job for your hard work…and it’s paid off!
So, to help you move forward, Models Direct have compiled a quick list of tips to help prepare you for your first gig! Here’s what you can do before the day:
Understand (and follow) the brief
A brief will be given to you, which will include important details such as what type of modelling work will be involved, time, place, wardrobe requirements, and the estimated duration of the project. If you have any queries, get in touch with your agency – like Models Direct – who will be happy to answer these for you.
Master mirror work
As this is your first gig, observe yourself in a mirror and practice modelling poses so that your muscles remember your favourite expression or your signature look. Practising will give you confidence and help you feel comfy when finding those rehearsed expressions on the spot on set. It’s a good idea to have a look at other models to see their work so you get more ideas. Ask someone you trust to have a look at your poses to get a second opinion on what seems to suit you.
Get rest (and plenty of it!)
With your adrenaline pumping, you’re excited and possibly nervous about how your first job will go. Make sure you get enough rest so you’re assignment ready minus a stinking headache. Your schedule might be busy and it could mean a lot of hours of shooting and filming so get an early night the night before.
Carry water
Grab a reusable bottle (thinking sustainably here!) and drink plenty of water for a clear mind and clear skin. Double points with this tip!
On-the-day tips:
Bring an “all you need for modelling” bag
Have a bag ready to fill in the essentials for your assignment. This could include makeup, skin and hair products, a mirror, a change of clothes, your charger, some stationary and extra money.
Be punctual
Plan your route. Gone are the days when you could use the, “Oh, there was an accident which caused major delays – so sorry!” excuse because you have Google Maps to show you the entire route in all modes of transportation now. Sorry – no excuses!
Please turn up early to your job. It’s a job, a paid profession, so make the most out of it and stick to the scheduled time of arrival.
Have a can-do & positive attitude
Exude confidence and positivity to help you create the right modelling mindset that helps you be your best self for the assignment.
We hope that these tips help you prepare and get ready for your first booking. If you belong to the Models Direct modelling team, please call us if you have any questions (even when you’re on a break on set!) We’re here to help you build your career and get started with the right tools and info.
Good luck from the MD team!
