If you are considering becoming a model it is important that you have a full understanding of what will be involved.
This is why one of our experts at Models Direct speaks to prospective models who apply, explaining more about the business and how the process works, and answering any questions you might have.
But we thought it also might be helpful to see some of the answers to the questions we are most commonly asked:
Q: Can a normal person become a model?
A: Yes! These days most models are “normal” people. Very often they are people who have other jobs or are busy with their family lives, but they fit the modelling in during their spare time. Our clients – ranging from small, local businesses to big name, high street brands – are always looking for normal people to appear in their adverts and campaigns. This is because they want to sell their products and services to normal people – so they need normal looking models!
Q: How do I know if a modelling agency is reputable?
A: Do your research thoroughly. Firstly, make sure that the advert or request you are responding to really is from an agency and not from an individual or company that is not a fully registered and vetted employment agency. Some individuals and companies suggesting they are agencies actually just “showcase” models by posting their photos online. They don’t actively seek work for them. This means the chances of them finding work for you are remote. There are also major safety concerns, as well as issues around whether you will be paid, if you sign up with anyone who is not a genuine accredited agency. Models Direct is government regulated to ensure it meets all legal requirements.
Q: How much will I earn as a model?
A: That depends on the assignments you take on, the amount of work you are able to do and the bookings we are able to offer you. Ultimately it might also depend on whether you end up making a career from modelling. The vast majority of our models have busy lives and do a little modelling on the side, and this brings them in some extra, much-needed income. We always discuss earning potential in more detail with our models when they join us as it is important to us that they know exactly what to expect.
Q: How quickly will I be paid for my modelling work?
A: If you join us and end up working through us then we will pay you very quickly. We insist on being paid by the client in advance of every single job. We are then able to retain your fee until after the assignment is completed and forward it on to you within a few days. This is one of the great benefits of joining an agency such as ours. We hear so many awful stories of people modelling for photographers and companies directly and then never receiving any payment.
Q: How do I find out more about modelling?
A: Contact us here at Models Direct. We have been in the business for 30 years and there is very little about it that we don’t know. In addition, of course, we can tell you about the way we work and why we have such a great reputation for the work we do.
