Our expert modelling team collectively brainstormed and came up with these top tips to share with newbie models who are interested in pursuing a brand new career in the modelling industry (and it’s much easier than you may think!) Let’s explore!
Join our Models Direct Family
There are two options for breaking into the modelling industry, either going solo or joining an agency. We understand that people might prefer to explore the industry on their own, building up experience through their connections and networking avenues.
We don’t deny that it’s not possible (but it’s pretty hard work chasing brands and companies, negotiating fees if you’re able to secure a potential opportunity, and seeing the project through to the end without another professional pair of eyes overlooking it whilst ensuring you’re safe and happy.)
As for joining an agency. We wouldn’t recommend joining anyone who seems to be offering everything you could imagine. It takes time to research and make a decision. Look at the agency’s online presence.
Things to ask are:
What are they offering?
Are they just a showcase agency who have a collection of model profiles up?
Is there strong evidence that they work with other brands and companies to connect their models with work?
What type of models do they represent?
Do they have any online reviews – positive or negative?
How do they deal with negative reviews?
Are there any fees involved?
Can you chat to a human (not a bot online?)

Start compiling a portfolio
A modelling portfolio is a collection of all your best headshots to full-body shots. It highlights your versatility showing off your looks, styles, and expressions which is perfect for our agency and our clients to see. You can experiment with different settings, seasons and themes to keep it current.
Stay patient and persistent
Modelling assignments don’t happen overnight, and certainly, a stream of steady modelling work doesn’t either. If anyone promises you this, sadly, they’re not being transparent.
What Models Direct does promise is that our team will work super hard to put you forward for every assignment that comes through our door or lands in our inbox that matches your look, style and versatility.
