Model Smiles that Sparkle? Think Dental Care

A smile is a beautiful gift to boost your spirit and make you and those around you feel happier. When you smile, your brain releases feel-good neurotransmitters like dopamine, endorphins, and serotonin which are the stuff to make you feel happy.

Our Models Direct models are always beaming with smiles that sparkle. We can hear their happiness over the phone when our booking team tells them that they’ve landed a gig. We also see it when they post an Insta reel from their on-the-set experience, and afterwards when they receive their payment and send us across a happy selfie cheque pic. There are smiles all around!

Some of our talent are body part models who are booked to model their smiles. We love it because we aim to have happy models and happy clients.

However, in the hustle and bustle of our everyday life, keeping those pearly whites in tip-top shape can be overlooked. An extension of your sparkly smile is your dental hygiene which is essential for your health and wellbeing.

Let’s take a look at reasons why you should go the extra mile to keep your teeth sorted – not just photoshoots, live promotional modelling, or commercial work, but for YOU!

Let’s brush…

Er, we mean, let’s go! 🙂

Stop tooth decay and gum disease

If you’re regularly brushing (ideally twice a day for two minutes with an electric toothbrush, or better still after every meal and snack), flossing (electric flossers are amazing!), using mouthwash and regular trips to your dentist, then not only will your teeth stay clean but you’ll be on top of a dental plan that (if done correctly) will hopefully avoid tooth decay and gum disease.

Life can get in the way of your teeth meeting a toothbrush. Busy people, we know! As models go on a hectic schedule, we understand it’s challenging.

However, putting in place better dental practices will help you avoid plaque build-up, cavities, gingivitis and more serious conditions like periodontitis (which is gum disease leading to tooth loss.)

This will hopefully mean shorter (but regular, mind) trips to the dentist so you can enjoy your modelling career and other commitments.

Protecting your overall well-being

Taking care of your oral health goes beyond visual dental impairments. If your oral hygiene is not at its peak, there are links to severe health issues such as heart disease, diabetes, rheumatoid arthritis and even Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s.

They say that the mouth is a window to a person’s overall health so remember to brush and floss all your teeth, not just the ones you want to keep!

Saving money in the long term, and your teeth

Dental care can cost a lot! That’s why it’s better to go in for routine checkups, cleanings, and any minor issues before they snowball into something bigger. This could mean a bigger cheque to pay for extensive treatment for advanced dental problems in the long run. Bottom line: it’s better to nip any issues in the bud before they escalate.

Increasing your self-confidence and self-esteem

If you have a well-cared-for smile, chances are you’ll be confident showing it to the world. If a photographer is shooting a close-range image of you, or a film crew is requesting to capture just your expressions, you’ll have the self-esteem to show your teeth and be proud.

Finally, having good oral health is linked to extending your lifespan! There’s evidence to suggest that by keeping your teeth and gums happy, you’ll be increasing your chances of living longer and healthier which means you’ll get more chances to enjoy life.

Keep your teeth clean every day, have regular checkups with your dentist, and don’t forget – smiles are free, but they are worth a lot!
