Making a difference – Models Direct employs models of all abilities

Models Direct has always been about equal opportunities for everyone regardless of their size, look or abilities.

We are a diverse, inclusive agency with a spectrum of real people on our books.

It has been over 30 years now since we first launched Models Direct and in that time, we are very pleased to say, we have seen many changes in the industry.

Perhaps the biggest step forward has been how clients are now much keener to reflect the general public as they really are in their advertising and marketing.

They want people of all ages, sizes, heritages, backgrounds and abilities.

They have realised that we are all different – and if they want different people to buy their products and services then they have to do all they can to tempt them.

One area of modelling where this is especially apparent is in the employment of models with disabilities.

In recent years, we have seen increasing demand from our clients for male, female and child models who are differently able.

Sometimes they are required to take part in a photo or film shoot as part of a family group for a general campaign or promotion.

And sometimes they are offered assignments where the aim is to promote something specifically aimed at those with disabilities.

At Models Direct we understand and appreciate that some of our models have different needs and require specific support that other models may not.

This is why we are always keen to have open, honest conversations with all our models about their needs so we can do all we can to ensure the experience of working with us is everything they hope it will be.

But let’s see what some of our models themselves have to say about their assignments with us…

Wheelchair user Alex took part in a shoot at Heathrow Airport. He told us:

“It was simple from the start.

“Everywhere was accessible, parking was easy and directions and contact info were both provided

“I hope to promote diversity and inclusion as a wheelchair user in more campaigns.

“Many thanks to everyone – it’s been a privilege!”

Molly took part in a shoot for the Business Disability Forum. She said:

“Yesterday I had my first paid job.

“Gemma, my talent manager was so kind understanding considerate and supportive surrounding my personal circumstances and discussed the whole process with me.

“The team I worked with was so lovely and easy to talk to.

“I had various, everyday shopping shots taken that I am really happy with.

“The vibe was completely relaxed and I had nothing to be concerned about.

“I’m so happy I have this agency.”

And Leanne took part in the same assignment. This was her feedback:

“I had the best experience on set this week, I absolutely loved every minute of it and I couldn’t stop smiling!

“Thank you so much Models Direct for this amazing opportunity, for believing in me and trusting me to professionally represent you.

“I was made to feel so welcome, by all the production team and I instantly felt really comfortable and at ease.

“As a wheelchair model, I can face many barriers and obstacles, but I can honestly say that I was treated with the utmost dignity and respect at all times and they were really accommodating and understanding, towards all my needs!

“I participated in a number of different scenes and scenarios, all based around disability inclusion in the workplace.

“It was great to meet and work alongside the other models.

“Everyone was so lovely, making this a really memorable experience.

“Thank you again Models Direct, I can’t wait to see the final cuts from this shoot and I look forward to working with you again soon.”
