We’re not really fans of buzzwords in the Models Direct office. Instead, we prefer to listen to opinions and to stick to facts. Every day we receive feedback from our models, and they’re usually free from buzzwords, too. There’s nothing vague about the reviews, and it’s no surprise that certain words are mentioned. Obviously, there are plenty of “thank yous” and “friendly colleagues”, but we find that invariably the most common one-word feedback is either “fun” or “enjoyable”.
Should work be fun? It depends on the job itself. An enjoyable work experience certainly depends on many factors:
1. A stress-free commute (cancel this if working from home).
2. Understanding clear work objectives.
3. Interacting with other people / colleagues.
4. Feeling confident to relay any fears / problems.
5. Post-work social life.
Agencies can’t influence the morning commute or organise a model’s social activities after an assignment, but we can affect a model’s job in other ways – all of them making the assignment a joy.
We know our clients, and they are all vetted, so we don’t ask models to work with a brand we have absolutely no information on. Our team always sends out clear instructions, so there shouldn’t be any nasty surprises upon arrival. Our models will often work with creative agencies on behalf of the clients, who have experience working with both modelling newcomers and more experienced ones. Also, we’re also on-hand at any time of the day during working hours to solve problems and to answer questions. This all adds to our models’ enjoyment, as it takes the pressure away, allowing them to relax and do what they’ve been chosen to do.
All modelling assignments are different, but many have common themes. Whether it’s a group booking, pet assignment or a traditional single model commercial shoot, our models come back with feedback emphasizing how fun their time has been. Modelling isn’t a mundane “9-5” job, that’s for sure.
Take a recent group booking for four young models at Luxury Student Living. Posing as students might have meant pretending to study (tutors across the country would hope so). But our young stars were paid to relax on sofas and play video games to illustrate how stylishly realistic our client’s accommodation is. The phot shoot went straight on to their website and took the centre stage of their Facebook page.
All four models were delighted with how causal the shoot was. Dariah said, “It was a great experience. The staff were kind and friendly which made the experience even more fun and unforgettable. I really do hope to get another opportunity at this kind of work.”
And each of the four models were paid £440 to pretend to be students for the day. That’s not too shabby, is it?
There’s fun to be had for pet owners as well. Additionally, we love receiving feedback from more mature models and models of diversity.
Models should always have pragmatic expectations and show high levels of professionalism on set, as you’ll be representing us to give it your all with our clients. But having fun goes together with the work, with is why so many models repeatedly tell us how much they enjoy themselves. Can you think of other types of work that exude so much freedom and fun?
