How Do I Know If I am Suitable for Modelling?

You’re on the right page if you’re looking for the answer to this question! Are you wondering whether you can make it as a model and whether you’re a suitable match to join our Models Direct team? Keep scrolling…

So, you’ve been exploring the world of modelling and contemplating whether you, your little one or your pet could make it as a professional model.

It’s a big move stepping into the modelling world but it’s not unachievable as our agency embraces everyday regular people and their wonderful children and pets to break into the industry.

Alongside our strong agency’s backing and guidance (should you choose to work with us), you’ll need the following qualities to help you qualify as a suitable modelling candidate. They are:

Being confident

You’ll be working with different people for each assignment you’ll be booked for so being confident in yourself is key. Industry professionals will include photographers, videographers, designers, makeup artists, a production crew, directors and at points, other models too. Teams can also vary in size. Sounds exciting but quite easily nerve-wracking too.

Being confident is a great asset to have as you’ll be on and off set communicating with people you probably will have never met before. However, with all new experiences, being nervous is very natural. Everyone expects this to happen (even us!) so if you’re feeling anxious just let our team know and we’ll be there to support you, before, during and after your assignment to help you feel prepared and uplifted.

Take a look at some of our registered models’ comments about how they felt on their first day on set.

Here’s Lydia’s feedback on her assignment with RSPCA Assured:

“Thanks to Models Direct, I had an absolutely brilliant time at the RSPCA Assured shoot with Goitom and Alex. Alex was such an organised, instructive photographer – he made it clear exactly what he wanted but was also not overly critical e.g. about getting facial expressions 100% perfect, so long as they were natural, which made for a relaxed atmosphere. He had two assistants who basically made sure everything in the shot was positioned right so that we didn’t have to move or do anything! I found Goitom really easy to work with as well – having never done a couple shoot before, I was quite nervous, but in the end, it didn’t feel awkward or uncomfortable at all (for me at least!) In addition, the client was perfect for me as a vegan, as the RSPCA Assured campaign is centralised on eating less meat, and only eating meat is good for animal welfare if you are going to. Would definitely be happy to work with any of the people involved again!

She wasn’t the only one who felt pre-assignment nerves. Rajya was booked for a NatWest campaign and she also experienced similar feelings, and shared her afterthoughts with us here:

“Had a great time at my first assignment with Models Direct. I was really nervous when I started out from home but I was settled as soon as I met the team. Everyone was really nice and pleasant to work with. It was very calm and relaxed.”

We’ve got more feedback if you’d like to explore what our amazing models have to say about working with us and our clients.

Being professional

As much as our models express that their assignments feel relaxed, we always encourage them to remain professional. This is another standout feature for models since clients want talent that is punctual, listens, adheres to guided instructions and is focused. Does this sound like something you could see yourself doing too?

Being open to feedback

Another characteristic a professional model should have is being open to constructive feedback from industry professionals. It can be difficult to stomach criticism so our agency always encourages any feedback relayed to our models to be positive for their self-development and growth. And to be honest, so they’re not put off either as we’re very aware that the industry can be quite harsh on models. Models Direct doesn’t follow the same approach as others as we respect and appreciate all our talent and their hard work.

Keeping up to date with the latest industry knowledge

Finally, it’s beneficial to be in the modelling industry loop so you stay on top of what’s happening in the latest news trends and developments. This will help you be better informed and prepared for highlighted topics, opportunities and changes that are coming their way.

And that’s it! Well, yes, there are *more* features but we’ll leave those for another blog. For now, take these tips on board, sign up with us, and see how it goes!
