This is probably one of the most popular questions typed into internet search bars when it comes to the world of modelling. And who better to ask than the experts? So, here we are where our specialist MD team (we’ve got thirty years of industry knowledge!) has collated a blog to answer this one just for you! Keep reading and scrolling to find out how you can get into modelling and kick-start a career.
Let’s begin with this – you don’t need to have a thigh gap, chiselled jawline, abs of steel, or be skinny or super tall. Our space in the modelling industry has carved a path for everyone to travel the road to modelling success.
That’s a recurrent once-thought-of restriction.
There’s a place for everyone to shine.
How?
Follow these steps (and in no particular order):
Step 1: Embrace who you are
Self-love and acceptance are important regardless of which journey you’re taking. If you appreciate what makes you unique and special, you’ll have more confidence and belief in your abilities and individuality. Do you want to stand out from the modelling crowd? First, embrace who you are and recognise that there’s no one else exactly like you.
Step 2: Compile your statement portfolio
We cannot emphasise this enough but you need a portfolio for modelling work just like you would a CV and personal statement when applying for a new job. Your portfolio will tell the story of who you are, helping agencies and clients get to know your work, your skills and who you are.
Step 3: Sign up with a reputable agency that works hard to connect you with legitimate work
Phew! That was a long point…but vital to include in our blog. If you want to become a model, we advise you to have a reputable and supportive agency cheering you on, actively looking for work for you, negotiating a good pay cheque and following up on how the work went – not once or twice, but every time you land a gig. (Hint – explore our agency and the work we provide).
Step 4: Take care of your health and wellbeing
Again, we’ll reiterate the point that being a model doesn’t mean you have to be a specific size to confirm the beauty standards. However, taking care of your health and well-being is for you rather than anyone or anything else. Eating well, exercising, sleeping well, taking care of your skin and your body are all part of the package, whether you’re an aspiring model or not.
On a human level, it’s your right over you! So take care of everything to do with you.
The world’s modelling standards can indeed be far to reach, but our agency is in one corner of it, and creating major waves, every day.
We were set up to allow everyday people to follow their own personalised path in the modelling arena and we can say that we have achieved that, and will continue to make it more accessible for everyone to enjoy and reap the benefits from.
Take on these four steps and see your aspirations of becoming a model transpire into reality.
