Well, here we are again.
Another Christmas, which means a lot of celebration – and a smidgen of chaos.
It’s the busiest time of the year for most people. It’s the busiest time for retailers for obvious reasons, so it’s no surprise that our models should prepare themselves to be put forward for plenty of commercial modelling jobs. Without models, brands wouldn’t be able to market their products as effectively, and they usually prepare for Christmas well in advance – sometimes several months before the crucial Christmas weekend.
We’re busy all year round here at Models Direct HQ. Nevertheless, we find that the lead-up to Christmas is particularly demanding – which is fine by us, as we’re happiest when we’re on-the-go. All facets of modelling need to come together to create the perfect marketing campaign, and that’s never truer than during the Christmas period. We need to be on our game, clients must be organised, and models need to be professional whilst juggling their hectic calendars.
If our models and clients are in sync, Christmas bookings always go well. They can be a little frenetic than usual, but that’s understandable. We often receive last-minute-bookings during the months leading up to the festive season, and we’re aware that any of our models can turn down a booking. Fortunately, we have the right models to help our clients all year round, so we’re well equipped to meet our client’s requirements. Christmas wouldn’t be the same without the odd alteration or amendment.
Christmas bookings largely satisfy the huge amount of retailers marketing their products for Christmas shoppers. Whilst a YouGov poll revealed Brits would probably spend a little less on Christmas last year due to the rising cost of living, the average household would still spend more than £500. Just over 50% of people surveyed said that they’d do their Christmas shopping before December; 25% said they’d shop in the first week of December. This highlights the fact that we don’t all leave it to the last moment. On the contrary – preparation reduces stress, and there’s no reason why most Brits won’t continue in the same trend this year. It’s another reason why models should keep their portfolios updated with festive snaps way ahead of December.
That’s not to say we just provide models for brands looking to make Crimbo profits. Every brand should look to expand and attract customers, but we supply the right models for all sorts of campaigns. It’s not all about money, margins and profits.
Some Christmas modelling jobs are purely promotional. For example, a large shopping centre may want models to dress up as Santa or his hard-working elves to get shoppers in the mood without selling anything. It’s a subtle part of modelling but works every time, every year.
Brands regularly use pets over the festive season. We’ve been asked by high-end retailers such as John Lewis to provide the cutest animals for their legendary Christmas campaigns, so read our essential lowdown on pet modelling and see where it will take them!
