How do I get selected for modelling work?

This is a question many of models have asked our team after registering with us. It’s a fair question, and one that we answer honestly right from start of the application.  

Models are forgiven for thinking that once they’ve applied to be a Models Direct model, they’ll be inundated with several jobs from which they can choose to suit their availability. Jobs do not happen overnight, and it can take time before a new model is offered an assignment. That said, it’s true that we always put forward the best models for the assignment in question, so many models really do enjoy repeat bookings. But models must have patience and realistic expectations. Good things, so they say, come to those who wait…

Hire a model

But the next fact is one that needs to be repeated so all models know exactly how they get chosen for modelling jobs: as an agency, we do not select our models for jobs. Our vetted clients always have the final say, and it’s our clients who ultimately tell us of their preferred models. Our clients pay us for the right models, so we’re sure all models and parents will appreciate that the ultimate decision lies with the clients.

At Models Direct, talent can get selected for work when our team receives a job specification from our clients where the models look/skills aee called for. The job brief could be extremely specific or more general. An example of a specific job specification could be, “Female models aged between 40 – 45 years required for promotional modelling job in Birmingham.” A general brief might be, “Male models wanted for lifestyle shoot in south of England.” Whatever clients need, we have the perfect models to make their marketing assignments a success: and that’s mainly assisting in helping them get their message across to their customers. 

We’ve been recommending registered models to clients large and small for over thirty-four years. Having grown every year, we know what our brands want, whether they be major fashion brands, online operations or city councils. Our clients are as diverse as our models, so we’re confident that approaching us is the first step for brands searching for their ideal commercial models.

So, our models get chose for work based on a client’s needs, and the briefs they send to us. Without joining a reputable agency, models will find it extremely difficult to even be seen by brands who need them. We never charge for portfolio photos, as these should be done by each model (and regularly updated on their Models Direct portfolios).

All models should take their careers seriously, and this means knowing how we operate, and how jobs don’t happen overnight. It’s frustrating to wait for clients to select you, but that’s the reality of the industry. Clients have always selected the models, so a model may be put forward several times without being chosen. But have patience, because modelling is highly desirable but competitive.
