Three reasons why we need to speak to new models

We know the importance of acquiring new models to our business. As our client base continues to grow, so should our pool of talent from which our clients ultimately select their preferred models. All businesses need to look to the future for the benefit of everyone involved.

As our list of talent grows, newcomers to our happy list of models should know that we need to talk to them before we can develop their application.

We’re an interactive agency. Our booking team wants to know what makes models tick, and what requirements they might have. We don’t simply file new registrations under “debut applicants” and leave it at that. Every new applicant is crucial to the whole booking process – and without bookings, we wouldn’t have the largest modelling client base in the UK. And, you guessed it, without our clients, we wouldn’t be in the enviable position to offer such a varied range of modelling opportunities.

We don’t want to be content with having a name and contact details on the application. We need to speak to all new models to gain valuable information that’ll help them and us. The three main reasons why we call new applicants are as follows:

1. To introduce ourselves. This isn’t a mere “courtesy call”. We want to speak to new models to establish common ground, and to verify a model’s identity. Whilst the vast majority of new applicants are genuine, making a call to a new model confirms they are who they say they are.

2. To learn a model’s expectations. This is particularly important. We want to know why models want to work with us. We need to know their motivations and interests, their hobbies and what they want to get out modelling. The call is very relaxed and not an interrogation; but it is a vital part of learning how new models can succeed with us.

3. To relay our booking process and explain how bookings happen. We’ll explain our fees, what they are for, what models can expect from us, and the importance of setting up your Models Direct portfolio (and which extra skills can really make you stand out). We’ll also explain how we pay our models after a job well done.

Models need to understand that their application cannot go to the panel for assessment until we’ve contacted them. Our initial phone call is a big part of the qualification process, and without it we can’t proceed further.

We’ll contact adults themselves; for baby, child and teen models, we’ll call parents / guardians (18 year olds+ must apply on their behalf. The same applies to applications for pet models – for obvious reasons.

When you register with us, you’ve made the best possible first move to become a commercial model, working with professional creative agencies, photographers and film makers on behalf of top brands. Getting seen by clients and top brands is often half the battle to be involved in modelling.

And, lastly, please don’t forget to answer our calls. Save our number in your phone so you know it’s us when we call you.

Welcome onboard, and we wish you the very best of luck as a Models Direct model.
