Sunderland Primary School Children Experience The Red Carpet

Our Sunderland Models Direct Agency has been on the hunt for some inspiring local news. We like to keep busy by sharing inspiring and current content to keep you up to date with the latest and greatest modelling news.

One story that has really made us take notice is this little gem which we’re sure you’ll enjoy reading about too.

Think primary students, Shakespeare and the red carpet, and what do you get? This fine unforgettable experience.

It’s not every day school children get to experience the red carpet treatment. But if it does happen, the special attention and VIP status can create a memorable moment that will hopefully stay with you for the rest of your life. That’s what happened with 28 Year 6 pupils at Fulwell Junior School on the evening of the 21st of January.

They had the opportunity to produce their feature film – “Macbeth – The Witches Trial” which was their personalised take on seeing the classic play but through the eyes of three witches after King Duncan’s murder. The children’s project was part of the international Shakespeare Schools Film Festival where schools were given the brief to reimagine the story of Macbeth.

Filming of the movie was broken between sites around the school, Seaburn beach and Kinetics, a new state-of-the-art studio complex in Washington, who helped make the student’s work become on screen reality.

To celebrate its premier screening, they attended the University of Sunderland Sir Tom Cowie Lecture Theatre with over 200 people to inveil the delightful production on big screen. Those who attended included  the mayor, Councillor Dorothy Trueman, Sunderland director of education, Simon Marshall alongside members of Fulwell Junior School staff – headteacher Peter Speck and deputy headteacher Lucy Hill.

As true stars would have it, the students had the red carpet rolled out for them so that they could get to feel what it’s like to be a movie star for the night. Pre-screening drinks and canapé reception ending with students receiving awards for their roles and the university’s official photographer capturing all the unforgettable moments.

Headteacher Peter Speck said: “I’m incredibly proud of them.”

The production was guided by assistant headteacher Katrina Humphries who added: “As part of the project the children also learned about some of the 8,500 roles in the movie industry. With the development of the new film studio, a career in movies is a realistic goal for children in the city.”

This source of inspiration is quite something, particularly with the forward-thinking vision the school had to support the dreams of the youngsters to perhaps one day enter the film industry.

Our agency also has the capacity for diverse child models and adult models alike to explore their flair for imagination and acting skills. Our models make a great impression and showcase their newfound and established skills for show stopping surprise projects.

An example of a heart warming campaign with one of our child models, Julia, was when she landed in The Guardian’s “Photos of the day” collection. But how did this even come to be? Well, it was with the amazing collaboration between Nextdoor (a community network website) and Dobbies Garden Centre in Wallington. The free toy adoption initiative was set up ahead of Christmas 2023 so that families were able to pick up preloved gifts without having to worry about the price tag during its two day launch. 6000 Nextdoor’s toy donations, sales and free items online were given away during its two day stay.

Julia, our mini Sunderland resident, was amazing, cuddling up to a giant “Adopt Me” bear. It’s such a tender image that we’re not surprised it made it’s way into the giant newspaper with a reach of 9,562,000 readers.
