Autumn chic – how to be it!

The weather may be cooling but the looks are getting hot and if you want to be on top of this season’s trends then read on!

Whether you choose the full outfit or just accessorise a little here or there for your next assignment, you could add a touch of autumn flavour to whatever you are wearing.

Models Direct brings you the DOs and DON’Ts for autumn 2024, giving models and those considering modelling an idea of this year’s autumn chic – and how to be it.

Female models

DO

Think about heavy texture – tweed, faux fur and heavy knit will look great when worn as outerwear or even layered a little if you can take the heat!

Wear burgundy, deep wine and plum shades – and these can look amazing in small amounts when accessorising, so you don’t have to spend a fortune on a new dress or jumper if you don’t want to.

Take a leaf out of the chaps’ book and think suited, booted and even a necktie! Oh yes, edgy female suits, rocking either a pair of trousers or a well-cut skirt is just the ticket this season!

DON’T

Show too much neck and cleavage – it’s all about being buttoned up and covered up this autumn, with high necks very much in!

Go too tight across the shoulders, however, as fitted is out and the 80s are making the shout – shoulders are big, bold and beautiful this season.

Forget to add a little sparkle – as winter gets underway you can afford to bring some glitter, shimmer and sequin chic to your going out get-ups.

Male models

DO

Keep it tight, trimmed and well fitted this season – it’s all about the well-cut, slim-look male suit for autumn 2024.

Have a little fun with your tie – try twisting it, replacing it with a colourful cravat or even being especially bold and opting for a bow! Come on, make a statement!

Embrace the frill – yes, fancy frills, lacy shirts and the old New Romantic ruffle is making a comeback!

DON’T

Be frightened to take casual to the extreme – double denim is autumn chic for those wishing to rock a truly relaxed look.

Hold back when it comes to knitwear – keeping cosy is king and there are some superb statement knits out there that you could try.

Opt for flimsy footwear – think chunky, sturdy and good quality shoes and boots. Not only will you look bang on trend but you will also be comfortable, night or day…
