At Models Direct we love seeing new modelling photos and video reel footage and the start of a new season is the perfect time to get out and about with your camera.
The grass is green, the leaves are full of trees and – like the rest of us – you probably have a spring in your step!
So here are our top 10 tips for taking new modelling shots in April:
1. Check the weather forecast and identify a lovely, sunny day when you and a friend can head out together.
2. Choose a location where you have the option of beautiful backdrops and open spaces – parks, gardens, nature reserves and some areas with woodland can be perfect.
3. Dress in spring colours. Some patterns can look fabulous but don’t overdo them. Be bold but not over the top with your outfit. Take a few different accessories with you so you can alter your look slightly.
4. Remind the photographer they need to make sure they have the sunshine behind them. You need to ensure, however, that you are not looking directly at the sun and therefore squinting. Try to turn to the side slightly.
5. The photographer needs to make sure we and our clients can see you and all your features clearly. Try some close up and full body shots.
6. Always try to use a tripod if possible – the photos and footage will be sharper and steadier.
7. We love to see beautiful spring backgrounds but make sure they are not too busy and that, if you are dressed in similar colours to whatever is behind you, you are not lost in the shot.
8. Think yellow daffodils, purple crocuses and green grass when looking for background spring colours to enhance your shot.
9. Make your photos or footage interesting by bending down to look at flowers, leaning against a tree or sitting on a swing in a park etc.
10. With the strong spring light you should not need to use a flash outdoors. If your shoot is taking time and your camera seems to be needing a flash then it is probably time to go home and think about coming out another day!
To join Models Direct you simply have to fill in an online form and send us one image. Once you are fully registered with us we will ask you to put together an e-portfolio with more photographs and video reel footage if you have any.
