With their “no fear” outlook on life and beaming smiles, child models have been a mainstay of commercial modelling for years. Sometimes, only a child model will do, as they have incomparable qualities other models cannot replicate. Take a school campaign, for instance, where pupils are needed to make the assignment authentic; only child models can pull that off (all our adult models possess great talents, but even they couldn’t mimic a child!) So, the demand for child models is always increasing, and 2023 looks set to be another bumper year for our rising little stars!
It can be a little confusing to know how your child can become a model (and maybe a tad daunting), but it really couldn’t be any easier. After all, hundreds of happy children have already starred in assignments for our clients, so the process can’t be that complicated. And it’s not, honest!
How to become a model.
As mentioned, it’s simple. All you (the legal parent or guardian over 18 years of age) needs to do is fill out this straightforward application form after uploading two colour photographs. Don’t fret if you don’t own a digital camera – clear Smartphone photos are perfect!
How old are child models?
We class child models as between the ages of 2 and 12 years of age (younger than this are baby models, and older than this are teen models).
Do you have to pay?
As with any legitimate modelling agency, our models pay fees to appear in a work seeking publication. In the case of child models, parents pay these fees, and they can be for a one-off year, or two or three years.
How much do they get?
Most of our models easily earn over the initial registration fee after their first successful assignment! Amounts can range from £100 to £500, depending on the client. Check out some successes
What are the risks?
A good question, and one which we know parents will be eager to know. A model’s safety – whether they are a child or mature model – is a critical part of the booking process. We vet every client on our lists, and we make sure all transport requirements and information needed for assignments are given to our models in plenty of time. We’ve been working with hundreds of our clients for years, so we’ve built up quite a professional rapport with them!
We also provide a reference number for each child model to protect their identity. Additionally, a Child Performer’s Licence (CPL) is required for every child of compulsory school age. When a child is selected and booked (after a parent’s consent, naturally), we send parents the booking forms and a CPL application. Models Direct will complete as much of the CPL as possible, and all parents have to do is fill out the rest and take it to a local authority for their approval and signature; they’ll issue a CPL directly to a parent.
Is modelling good for kids?
You bet it is. Modelling nurtures and installs confidence in children. This comes with a combination of working with professional adults and having fun. Modelling has beneficial repercussions on school, family and social lives, too, so it all adds up to be an exceptional pursuit for children – and that’s even without mentioning a pay cheque within five working days of the job!
